A dozen more people facing impaired driving charges after Week Four of DRPS Festive R.I.D.E. program's Profile



During the fourth week of their the Festive R.I.D.E program, Durham police stopped 1,900 vehicles and charged 12 drivers with drinking and driving offences.

Officers conducted RIDE checks in Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Brock and Clarington with the following totals:

1,900     Vehicles stopped by R.I.D.E.
23          People given Roadside Breath Tests
3            People received “3 Day Suspensions” for registering a “WARN”
0            Novice Driver received a 3 Day Licence Suspension
12             People were charged with Drinking and Driving Offences
12             Other Criminal Code Charges
67         Various Highway Traffic Act Charges issued
0             Drug Offences

Through four weeks the Festive RIDE team has charged a total of 36 motorists for drinking/drug driving offences.

Police would like to remind the public that drivers cannot have cannabis in a vehicle when the seal of its original packaging is open and is within reach of the driver.

Also under the law a motorist with a G1/G2 licence must have a zero blood alcohol content while driving.

If you observe an impaired driver, police ask you to call 9-1-1.
