If you’re looking to get some sun while still beating the heat, more options have opened up.
Durham Region’s Health Department says 12 beaches are now safe for swimming this weekend.
Beaches in Brock and Oshawa have re-opened, although Beaverton Beach South has been posted as unsafe for swimming.
Elgin Pond in Uxbridge hasn’t yet been tested.
Beaches are considered ‘unsafe’ when E. coli levels surpass 200 per 100 mL of water.
Here’s the full list of where you can and can’t hit the waves this weekend:
- Beaverton Beach South (Brock) — Unsafe for swimming
- Beaverton Beach North (Brock) — Open and safe for swimming
- Bowmanville Beach East (Clarington) — Open and safe for swimming
- Bowmanville Beach West (Clarington) — Open and safe for swimming
- Elgin Pond (Uxbridge) — Not tested
- Frenchman’s Bay East (Pickering) — Open and safe for swimming
- Frenchman’s Bay West (Pickering) — Open and safe for swimming
- Kinsmen Beach (Scugog) — Open and safe for swimming
- Lakeview Beach East (Oshawa) — Open and safe for swimming
- Lakeview Beach West (Oshawa) — Open and safe for swimming
- Newcastle Beach Central (Clarington) — Open and safe for swimming
- Paradise Beach (Ajax) — Open and safe for swimming
- Thorah Centennial Park (Brock) — Open and safe for swimming
- Whitby Beach (Whitby) — Open and safe for swimming
