Courtice man plans to buy ATV and garage after big lottery win's Profile

Gary Dougherty of Courtice is $250,000 richer after winning with Instant Cash Club.

The 46-year-old building maintenance and general foreman, won when he cashed in a smaller winning ticket in exchange for the big winner.

“I was on break sitting in my truck, and when I revealed the prize amount I thought it was for $25, and then I uncovered all the zeroes,” he recalled, while picking up his winnings in Toronto. “I left the ticket in my truck and tried to play it cool at work for the rest of the day, but I had to keep my eyes on the truck,” he laughed.

When he called his wife to tell her, it didn’t register with her until he used the words ‘a quarter of a million dollars’. “She screamed a bit,” he shared.

Dougherty plans to use his windfall to buy an off-road ATV and the garage to go with it. The rest he plans to put into savings.

“This is great – I’m happy and enjoying the moment,” he concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at Clarington Convenience on Highway 2 in Courtice.
