Durham police called in the Explosive Disposal Unit after a suspious package was found in Pickering on Monday.
It was found in the Broad Road and Bayly Street area around 2:40 p.m. and a officers immediately set up a perimeter around the package.
Police are expected to provide an update on the situation later on Monday.
