A man, 30, is dead after being hit by a falling tree in Ganaraska Forest during Saturday’s thunderstorm.
Durham police say they were already in the forest that afternoon around 3 p.m. for a different matter. They were eventually alerted that a man had been struck by a tree.
His injuries were described as “significant.” Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Meantime, Northumberland OPP are investigating a similar fatal incident in Port Hope.
Officers were called shortly after 2 p.m. to an address in the municipality.
They say a woman, 74, was struck by a falling tree.
The Port Hope resident was pronounced dead at the scene.
OPP recommend staying away from any trees that may have been damaged during the storm.
At least eight deaths across southern Ontario have been linked to the thunderstorm.
