Three quick-thinking Durham police officers helped rescue a pair of stranded paddle boarders, as well as a kayaker who tried to help them, out in Lake Ontario near Pickering.
On Sunday, officers were called to Montgomery Park to help a man and a woman who had run into trouble about 60 metres away from the shore.
They were hanging onto a paddle board and two kayakers who heard their cries had gone out to help.
Before officers got to the lake, one of the kayakers had come back out of the water due to fatigue.
However, the other person was now in trouble and was hanging onto their overturned kayak when police arrived.
Three officers headed into the water, while the fourth stayed on the beach to guard their gear.
They were able to pull everyone out of the water and brought them back to shore with the help of two other kayakers.
No one was hurt, but officers want to remind you to always wear a life jacket while in deep water.
You should also be mindful of currents that can take you far away from the shore.
