Durham police searching dog that was stolen in Whitby's Profile



A man is facing charges and police are searching for another suspect after a robbery involving two dogs in Whitby.

A woman was out walking her dogs in the Ash Street and Mary Street area around 11 p.m. December 30 when she was approached by two suspects in a parking lot.

Police say the pair stole her dogs, but when another woman intervened, one of the dogs was returned.

The bystander was assaulted by the suspects and sprayed with a noxious substance. 

Both woman suffered minor injuries.

Ali Habieb, 28, of Pickering, was arrested and faces charges including assault with a weapon, robbery and administering a noxious substance.

Police are still searching for the other suspect, who took off in a white, four-door SUV, with the woman’s other dog.

He’s described as black with a heavy build, between 6’2” and 6’4” tall with orange and blondish-coloured hair.

The stolen dog is a four-year-old brown and white mixed bulldog named “Nina.”
