Durham under special weather statement warning of possible freezing rain and rain Wednesday's Profile

It could be a slick drive Wednesday.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Durham Region, warning of possible freezing rain and rain.

The area could get freezing rain Wednesday morning or afternoon. The weather agency says freezing rain is expected to change over to rain Wednesday afternoon or evening.

Areas near the shores of Lake Ontario will likely remain above the freezing mark and will likely only receive rain.

Flooding is possible, as the frozen ground has the reduced ability to absorb the rain.

We could see up to five millimetres of ice buildup.

It will also be windy and in total, Environment Canada is calling for between 10 and 20 millimetres of rain.

They warn icy roads and power outages are possible as well.
