Oshawa Fire Services are investigating the cause of a blaze near the city’s downtown core.
They were called shortly after 10 p.m. Friday to a house on Brock Street East.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Ken Whetham, visible smoke was rising from the second floor.
Fire crews were able to put it out with an offensive attack.
One person was taken away by paramedics due to smoke inhalation.
Crews were able to save a cat from the fire.
A dog was also brought out. However, despite being given CPR and oxygen, it did not survive.
The damage to the second floor of the house is described as significant.
