Fire hits transformer station in Oshawa's Profile

A section of Thornton Road in Oshawa is back open, after it was shut down for a fire investigation.

Durham police asked drivers to avoid the area just before 2 p.m. Friday.

They didn’t say exactly what was on fire, but photos from the area show a transformer site surrounded by first responders.

No one was hurt, but the fire happened at roughly the same time as major power outages in Oshawa and Whitby.
