Five of Durham’s beaches unsafe for swimming: Durham health's Profile

The Durham Region Health Department has posted five beaches as unsafe for swimming this week.

They say Beaverton Beach South, Kinsmen Beach in Port Perry, Lakeview Beach East and Lakeview Beach West in Oshawa and Paradise Beach in Ajax all have elevated levels of E. coli.

Testing was not done at Uxbridge’s Elgin Pond again this week because of a Blue Green Algae bloom seen there recently.

A sign has been posted there warning of the bloom.

The health department reminds the public not to swim in beach water for at least 48 hours after heavy rainfall, as bacteria levels can increase due to run-off.
