The province’s police watchdog has charged a former Peel police officer after a Black woman was shot in Mississauga.
Police were called to a home on Ledbury Crescent near Mavis Road and Britannia Road on May 10, Mothers Day.
They were conducting an investigation when there was an interaction between the occupants and officers, which Peel police say resulted in a Taser being discharged along with a police firearm.
Chantelle Krupka, 34, was struck and taken to hospital.
The SIU has now charged Valerie Briffa with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and the careless use of a firearm.
Peel police say she was a probationary constable at the time and she resigned from the force on June 29.
