Oshawa could be among the communities that get hovercraft service across Lake Ontario in the future.
It’s set to launch in the summer of 2023 and take riders from Ontario Place to Port Weller, St. Catharines in 30 minutes.
The service would be year-round, as the hovercrafts can travel across land, ice and water in virtually all weather conditions and temperatures.
The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA) told Durham Radio News they’re thrilled to see the service moving forward. They also confirmed the are actively collaborating with the company, Hoverlink, to support the expansion of the service to more communities. They added more information is expected in the fall.
Oshawa Councillor Brian Nicholson also said in a Facebook post the city and HOPA are working with the operator to expand the service to Oshawa.
