BuzzFeed is closing HuffPost Canada and laying off 23 workers as part of a wider restructuring plan.
It comes soon after BuzzFeed agreed to purchase Huffington Post from Verizon.
In a statement, BuzzFeed says 47 U.S. employees will also be laid off. Cuts in other countries aren’t clear yet, though BuzzFeed is proposing “slimming operations” in Australia and the U.K.
A message posted to HuffPost Canada’s website indicates it will no longer publish content. It also confirms existing content will be maintained in an online archive.
Some other site features will be disabled as of March 12.
CWA Canada says about two dozen workers at HuffPost Canada had filed for union certification in February.
