Utility company Hydro One says they are extending their freeze on disconnections until further notice.
The decision to halt disconnections was made in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the measure was initially supposed to end by the start of August.
However, in light of the ongoing pandemic, Hydro One says they won’t be shutting anyone’s lights off for non-payment.
The utility says people need electricity while they’re stuck at home, especially during hot, humid weather.
“Hydro One will always stand with customers and communities and will never lose sight of our commitment to provide relief, flexibility and choice,” said Mark Poweska, President and CEO of Hydro One. “Power is a lifeline connecting families and businesses during this unprecedented time. We feel a deep responsibility to keep customers connected and to help those who are struggling with the right financial support programs.”
