The Jays will be playing most of their ‘home’ games a whole lot closer than Pittsburgh… but still across the Canada-U.S. border.
In a statement, the team says they’ll be playing at Sahlen Field in downtown Buffalo, New York.
That’s the home of the Jays’ triple-A affiliate– the Buffalo Bisons.
Canada’s only MLB team has been scrambling to find a suitable place to play home games since Ottawa denied the team special permission to play at the Rogers Centre.
The government said it wouldn’t be a good idea to allow so many players and staff to cross the border on a regular basis without quarantining for two weeks.
However, the state of Pennsylvania shot down that plan, citing various concerns with travel and crowds.
The Jays play their first game of the season on Friday evening in Tampa Bay, with their ‘home’ opener to follow shortly.
The team didn’t immediately elaborate on what the ‘majority’ of games means specifically, but said an updated schedule will be released soon.
