LCBO stores are being told to pull Russian-made products from their shelves.
The announcement came Friday from Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy as the Russian invasion of Ukraine intensifies.
“Ontario joins Canada’s allies in condemning the Russian government’s act of aggression against the Ukrainian people, and will direct the LCBO to withdraw all products produced in Russia from store shelves,” he tweeted.
The move came hours after calls from Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca for the LCBO to cut ties with Russian commerce.
“We must send a clear message to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, including halting all money going to Russia during his Ukraine invasion,” Del Duca tweeted.
Similar moves have been announced by officials in Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador.
