You can cool off in the water at any of Durham’s beaches this weekend, except for one.
The health department’s weekly tests showed elevated levels of E. coli in the water at Beaverton Beach South.
Warning signs have been posted and everyone, including kids and pets, should stay out of the water for the time being.
All other beaches in the region are considered safe for swimming.
The health department also reminds you to stay out of the water for at least 48 hours after heavy rain, since bacteria levels can increase due to run-off.
Even though beaches are open, you still have to follow all public health rules, including physical distancing and gathering limits.
