Ontario COVID-19 Update: April 23's Profile

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ontario is still fluctuating.

The province reported 3,820 cases Saturday, but once again, Public Health Ontario says counts may be higher due to catch-up on reporting following service degradation in Case and Contact Management (CCM) system.

There are also 1,684 hospitalizations due to COVID-19, 93 more than Friday’s report.

Of those patients, 212 are in the ICU, two fewer than Friday.

There were 23 more deaths announced from the last month and one was removed due to a data cleanup initiative.

It brings the death toll in the province to 12,728.

The number of known active cases went up to 33,620 but that number is also underestimated due to the province’s testing limitations.

There were 20,004 tests completed the day prior to this report with a backlog of 8,035 tests.

The province is reporting a positivity rate of 17.3 per cent.

So far in Ontario, 32,572,210 vaccines have been administered.

According to the province, 12,628,036 people have at least one dose, 12,156,542 people have received two doses and 7,279,492 have three doses.

In Ontario, 90.11 per cent of eligible residents five and up have their first shot and 86.76 per cent have two doses.

Right now, third doses are only open to those 12 and up and 56.29 per cent have three shots.
