Ontario COVID-19 Update: April 9's Profile

The number of COVID-19 cases in Ontario continues its upswing.

The province reported 3,797 cases Saturday, but Public Health Ontario admits case counts are an underestimate of the true number.

There are also 1,188 hospitalizations due to COVID-19, 53 more than Friday’s report.

Of those patients, 168 are in the ICU, three more than Friday.

There were 10 more deaths announced from the last month and one more was added due to a data cleanup initiative.

It brings the death toll in the province to 12,548.

The number of known active cases went up to 30,056 but that number is also underestimated due to the province’s testing limitations.

There were 18,678 tests completed the day prior to this report with a backlog of 7,497 tests.

The province is reporting a positivity rate of 18.4 per cent.

So far in Ontario, 32,177,268 vaccines have been administered.

According to the province, 12,614,225 people have at least one dose, 12,134,753 people have received two doses and 7,220,800 have three doses.

In Ontario, 90.02 per cent of eligible residents five and up have their first shot and 86.60 per cent have two doses.

Right now, third doses are only open to those 12 and up and 55.83 per cent have three shots.
