The province reported 2,230 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 Sunday, 263 less than Saturday’s report. However, some hospitals do not report bed counts on Sundays, so there is a slight undercount.
Of those patients, 486 are in the ICU, 14 less than Saturday.
There were 56 deaths announced Sunday, bringing the death toll in the province to 11,825 (one was removed from the total due to a data cleanup).
There were 2,887 cases reported Sunday, but Public Health Ontario admits case counts are an underestimate of the true number of individuals with COVID-19 in the province.
The number of known active cases went down to 34,914, but that number is also underestimated due to the province’s testing limitations.
There were 17,502 tests completed the day prior to this report with a backlog of 6,236 tests.
The province is reporting a positivity rate of 11.8 per cent.
Due to technical difficulties, updated information on case rates and vaccine status was not available on Sunday.
So far in Ontario, as of Saturday, 30,949,011 vaccines have been administered.
According to the province, 12,493,035 people have at least one dose, 11,802,058 people have received two doses and 6,561,032 have three doses.
In Ontario, 89.12 per cent of eligible residents five and up have their first shot and 84.44 per cent have two doses.
Right now, third doses are only open to those 18 and up and 54.67 per cent have three shots.
