Ontario COVID-19 Update: May 10's Profile

The number of Ontarians in hospital due to COVID-19 has jumped, which typically happens on Tuesdays after the weekend numbers.

The province reported 1,555 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 Tuesday, 342 more than Monday.

Of those patients, 188 are in the ICU, 13 less than Monday.

There were 19 more deaths announced from the last month.

It brings the death toll in the province to 12,991.

There were 1,089 cases reported Tuesday, but Public Health Ontario admits case counts are an underestimate of the true number of individuals with COVID-19 in the province.

The number of known active cases went down to 22,285, but that number is also underestimated due to the province’s testing limitations.

There were 11,576 tests completed the day prior to this report with a backlog of 7,061 tests.

The province is reporting a positivity rate of 12.4 per cent.

So far in Ontario, 32,968,528 vaccines have been administered.

According to the province, 12,644,876 people have at least one dose, 12,179,256 people have received two doses and 7,331,519 have three doses and 812,877 have four.

In Ontario, 89.99 per cent of eligible residents five and up have their first shot and 86.55 per cent have two doses.

Right now, third doses are only open to those 12 and up and 55.68 per cent have three shots.
