Ontario COVID-19 Update: May 7's Profile

COVID-19 data in the province continues to fluctuate.

The province reported 2,164 cases Saturday, but Public Health Ontario admits case counts are an underestimate of the true number.

There are also 1,563 hospitalizations due to COVID-19, 99 fewer than Friday’s report. This number is likely an undercount as some hospitals do not report their bed counts over the weekend.

Of those patients, 204 are in the ICU, six fewer than Friday.

There were 24 more deaths announced from the last month bringing the death toll in the province to 12,962.

The number of known active cases went down to 24,708 but that number is also underestimated due to the province’s testing limitations.

There were 14,521 tests completed the day prior to this report with a backlog of 6,116 tests.

The province is reporting a positivity rate of 13.1 per cent.

So far in Ontario, 32,924,140 vaccines have been administered.

According to the province, 12,642,662 people have at least one dose, 12,176,491 people have received two doses and 7,325,918 have three doses.

In Ontario, 90.22 per cent of eligible residents five and up have their first shot and 86.90 per cent have two doses.

Right now, third doses are only open to those 12 and up and 56.65 per cent have three shots.

Fourth dose data has not been made available.
