Oshawa officials say unofficial dirt jump park will not be demolished Wednesday's Profile

City officials say an unofficial dirt jump park will not be demolished on Wednesday, though advocates continue to call on the city rethink tearing it down altogether.

The group has launched a petition, calling on the city to halt their decision to tear down the ‘Greenland Dirt Jumps,’ north of Rossland Road between Thornton Road and Stevenson Road.

It also calls for the city to “provide evidence that it is absolutely necessary to do so.”

In response to the opposition, city officials say the park will not be demolished on Wednesday, as originally scheduled.

However, officials say the health and safety of everyone remains the city’s top priority and they are reaching out to users to discuss options.

The petition says although the trails aren’t fully sanctioned, they’ve been around for more than a decade and modelled after professionally built bike parks.
