Police investigating after several guns were stolen in Bowmanville's Profile

Seven handguns are missing after an apparent break-in at a Bowmanville home.

At some point between Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon, Durham police say someone got inside of a home in the Liberty Street North and Sunset Road area, south of Longworth Avenue.

The guns, which police say are all legally owned, were taken from a locked safe. Investigators think the thief or thieves struck while the homeowner was at work.

Officers are looking for any information about suspicious activity in the area between 6:30 a.m. Monday and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police are also investigating a similar gun theft that happened around the same time. Some time on Monday afternoon or evening, officers say three guns were stolen from a secured locker inside an Oshawa home.

In both instances, nothing else was missing from the homes and there were no signs of a forced entry.

Officers have not said whether the two incidents are related.

Anyone with security camera footage or any other information should call Det. Wannamaker at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1634, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
