The latest COVID-19 numbers are in, and they break another record.

While the Ministry of Health is saving its in-depth reports until Tuesday due to the holiday, Public Health Ontario has released preliminary numbers.

There were 18,445 new cases on Saturday, along with 12 more deaths.

Health Minister Christine Elliott took to Twitter to report another 16,714 new cases on Sunday. Public Health later reported 16 more deaths.

Elliott also confirmed Saturday’s case count.

Officials note that the numbers are likely underestimates, due to the fast spread of the Omicron variant as well as the recent rollback in available publicly-funded testing.

So far, 90.8 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and up have received at least one vaccine dose, and 88.2 per cent have two doses.

There are at least 1,117 people testing positive in hospitals, with 224 people in intensive care.
