Rainbow banners to fly across Durham Region during Pride Month's Profile

PFLAG’s Durham chapter is hoisting rainbow banners in public spaces across the region, with aims of raising visibility for the 2SLGBTQI people who call it home.

“Custom-made banners will be flying from the light standards of almost all cities, towns and townships across the [region],” reads a statement Tuesday.

The banners should all be up by June 1, and stay throughout the month. Special banners supporting “Small Town Pride” will fly in Cannington, Beaverton, Sunderland, Uxbridge and Port Perry.

“Positive and healthy affirmation of one’s existence is a key to 2SLGBTQI peoples’ well-being,” note officials. “Feeling affirmed about one’s own identity, and witnessing positive role models in the world, can boost self-esteem which is especially important to those still developing their sense of self.”
