An Ashburn grandfather is $100,000 richer after winning big with Encore.
Hubert Hanlon, a 74-year-old retired natural gas contractor, matched the last six of seven numbers in exact order in the July 3 draw.
Hanlon says he found about about his prize when his son-in-law was using the OLG Lottery App to check his ticket for him.
“He came and showed me his phone and said, ‘This is a $100,000 winner’,” he shared. “I said, ‘No way’, and went right to the store to use the Ticket Checker to double check for myself!”
Hanlon says he doesn’t have any plans for his winnings yet.
“I’ll put it in the bank for a while until I make plans to put it to good use. And I will make sure to share a bit with my grandkids,” he smiled.
“I almost wish I had won this amount 30 years ago – it would have saved me all those mortgage payments,” he laughed.
The winning ticket was purchased at Brooklin Smokey Way on Campbell Street in Whitby.
