As the heat continues Hydro One is offering some tips to keep your air conditioner from working too hard.
Spokesperson Alex Stewart says things like blackout curtains, blinds and awnings help keep the heat out and says a fan is a good investment.
“A ceiling fan especially, lets you keep your thermostat four degrees Celsius higher without affecting your comfort,” shared Stewart.
He also recommends checking doors and windows for cracks or openings where cold air can seep out.
When trying to cook, Stewart says staying cool can be tough, but using smaller appliances like crock pots, toaster ovens, and microwaves can help.
“Ovens in particular use more electricity and raise the temperature,” explained Stewart. “So this forces your cooling system to work double time.”
He suggests using the BBQ outdoors when you can.
