Since late March, the provincial government has been allowing bars and restaurants to serve ‘to-go’ beer, wine and liquor with food orders.

It was meant to be a temporary measure aimed at helping struggling establishments stay afloat amid widespread closures, but some Toronto owners say they’re ready to fight in order to make the rules permanent.

Outlets that offer rare wines or spirits say they’ve seen a big boost in sales thanks to alcohol delivery.

They say customers are supporting their business, while being able to enjoy products the LCBO rarely carries.

Shamez Amlani, co-owner of La Palette bistro in Toronto says he’s selling more wine through take-out than he has in 20 years of business.

The Ministry of the Attorney General hasn’t said whether it will look into making the new laws permanent, but did say it is committed to working with the hospitality sector.

Although the measure is set to end on the last day of 2020, Amlani says he’ll do everything he convince the province to keep the to-go drinks flowing.
