Toronto firefighter facing careless driving charge after crashing firetruck's Profile

Toronto police say a local firefighter is facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act after a firetruck crashed en route to an emergency.

Officers say the truck was heading north on Mount Pleasant Road, with lights and siren activated, on the afternoon of April 4.

The truck approached Lawrence Avenue East, where traffic wasn’t moving, but didn’t stop.

Instead, officers say the firetruck turned right to go east in the westbound lanes.

That’s when police say the truck collided with two poles, causing one firefighter to be taken to hospital with minor injuries.

No one else was hurt.

After an investigation, the firetruck driver was charged with careless driving and turn – not in safety. They were not named.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
