Trudeau says Ottawa will transfer $19-billion to provinces as economies reopen's Profile

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal, provincial and territorial governments have reached a multi-billion dollar deal involving transfers intended to help with reopening economies.

As the pandemic continues, and many places ease back some of the initial restrictions brought on by COVID-19, Ottawa will be contributing $19-billion to the effort.

The money is intended to help lower-tier governments with urgent needs like child care funding, bail outs for cities with soaring expenses and plunging revenues, boosting contract tracing capacity and buying more personal protective equipment (PPE).

Ontario will receive $7-billion.
