Two facing charges after Air1 helps Durham police track down stolen minivan in Clarington's Profile


A man and woman are facing charges after trying to flee from Durham police in a stolen minivan.

On Wednesday night, just before midnight, an officer spotted a Dodge Caravan with stolen plates in Oshawa, south of Phillip Murray Avenue.

They tried to stop the vehicle, but instead of pulling over, the driver took off.

Officers called off their pursuit due to safety concerns.

Air1 was in the area and helped track the van into Clarington.

Police on the ground caught up with the driver and passenger in the Bragg Road area, north of Highway 2.

Video showing part of the arrest has been released and can be viewed below.

The 36-year-old driver, from Oshawa, faces 31 charges.

They include several counts of possession of property obtained by crime, nine counts of breach of probation, three counts of operation while prohibited, fail to comply with undertaking and dangerous operation.

He wasn’t named, but was held for a bail hearing.

The passenger, a 31-year-old Ajax woman was charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

She was not named either.
