Two people facing stunt driving charges after being caught speeding in Scugog's Profile

Durham police say they’ve charged two people with stunt driving while out on patrol in Scugog.

Officers spotted a speeding vehicle near Regional Road 57 and Highway 7A April 1. They say the driver was going as fast at 170 km/h at one point. They caught up with the 18-year-old driver in Caesarea. The driver was charged with stunt driving and unnecessary noise. They were issued at 30-day suspension and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

The next day, the same officers were patrolling Highway 7A when they passed a vehicle that refused to turn off their high beams. Police followed the driver, who then turned south on Highway 12 at a high rate of speed. Police say the driver was going 138 km/h, but they did eventually stop for officers.

During the stop, police spotted open alcohol in the car. A further search for alcohol found the passenger had three large bags of pot containing about 30 grams. Tickets were issued for liquor offences, cannabis offences, stunt driving and failing to lower high beams. The vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

No names have been released.
