The City of Toronto is putting the brakes on a pair of summer camp programs after one of the young participants tested positive for COVID-19.

Officials say a single child at the Barbara Frum Community Centre camp in North York tested positive for the coronavirus after developing symptoms last week.

The camper has been isolating at home since then.

Out of an abundance of caution, the city has closed the affected camp, as well as a nearby camp being run out of the Glen Long Community Centre, for the remainder of the week.

Each centre will be thoroughly cleaned before camps restart on Monday.

Despite the positive test, officials say no other campers or staff members have shown any symptoms of COVID-19, however the city is asking some of those individuals to self-isolate for two weeks.

Staff are getting in touch with caregivers and parents, as well as the families of any campers who may have been in close contact with the child who tested positive.

The other 118 camp programs being run by the city will continue as scheduled.
