The United States is standing down in its tariff dispute with Canada and lifting a 10 per cent levy on Canadian aluminium.
The sudden about-face from the Trump administration comes just hours before the Trudeau government was expected to announce dollar for dollar countermeasures in retaliation.
The office of the U.S. Trade Representative is expected to lift the tariffs retroactive to September 1st and says it expects Canadian exports to “normalize” over the remainder of the year.
Ottawa had already issued a list of possible American products on the target list, including beverage cans, washing machines and golf clubs.
