Ajax Fire is reminding you to check up on your smoke alarms, after a close call on Monday.
Around 3:50 a.m., crews were called to a house fire near Harwood Avenue and Rossland Road.
When they arrived, they saw smoke billowing from the home.
Although the home was on fire, the people who live there got outside before first responders got to the scene.
“All fires are horrible; however, this one had a happy ending thanks to working smoke alarms,” said Fire Prevention Inspector, Shelley Langer. “The residents of the home were able to evacuate safely with no injuries.”
Ajax Fire is reminding you to have a working smoke alarm on every level of your home. You should also stick one outside every sleeping area.
If your alarm sounds, get out of the building and don’t go back inside for anything.
You should also have a fire escape plan with at least two ways to leave the building.
