A young woman is dead and two young men are seriously injured, following a single-vehicle crash near Stouffville.
Police were called around 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, to the area of Webb Road, east of York-Durham Townline.
Durham police say a Hyundai Santa Fe was going westbound when it left the road and struck a large tree.
Three people – all Stouffville residents – were rushed to a trauma centre.
The driver – a 17-year-old boy – was left with serious injuries. His condition remains critical.
An 18-year-old woman was pronounced dead in hospital.
Another passenger – an 18-year-old man – received less serious injuries and is in stable condition.
All three are Stouffville residents.
It’s not clear what caused the crash, but police say speed may have been a contributing factor.
The area has since been re-opened.
