Young woman dead, two others injured in crash near Stouffville's Profile

A young woman is dead and two young men are seriously injured, following a single-vehicle crash near Stouffville.

Police were called around 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, to the area of Webb Road, east of York-Durham Townline.

Durham police say a Hyundai Santa Fe was going westbound when it left the road and struck a large tree.

Three people – all Stouffville residents – were rushed to a trauma centre.

The driver – a 17-year-old boy – was left with serious injuries.  His condition remains critical.

An 18-year-old woman was pronounced dead in hospital.

Another passenger – an 18-year-old man – received less serious injuries and is in stable condition.

All three are Stouffville residents.

It’s not clear what caused the crash, but police say speed may have been a contributing factor.

The area has since been re-opened.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Constable Bill Scott at 905-579-1520 ext. 5217, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
